The video features primary human keratinocytes isolated from the epidermis of human skin. The function of keratinocytes is to physically protect against environmental damage such as pathogens, heat, UV radiation, and water loss. If pathogens invade the epidermis, keratinocytes can trigger the immune response by attracting leukocytes.
Primary cell lines such as kerytinocytes are very fragile, one of the biggest challenges in cell biology is long-term imaging of fine cellular dynamics within such sensitive cell types.
Technology:
3D Cell Explorer microscope from Nanolive, Switzerland.
The 3D Cell Explorer is a high speed, high resolution and non-invasive live cell imaging microscope that can look deep inside biological systems. This allows you to record stunning 3D images of entire cells in just seconds and with a higher resolution than any conventional microscope on the market.
