This year, AEPi commemorated the anniversary of Kristallnacht (November 9-10, 1938) with the Simon Wiesenthal Center. During the program, attendees heard from Dr. Efraim Zuroff and TM Garret. During Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass, Nazis in Germany torched synagogues and vandalized Jewish homes, schools and businesses. This event only fueled anti-Semitism in Germany and would later lead to the Holocaust, where six million Jews were murdered.
Dr. Zuroff is the chief Nazi-hunter of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. He began his career in 1980 when he was hired by the U.S. Justice department’s Office of Special Investigations, and has been working tirelessly since to bring Nazi war criminals to justice.
TM Garret is a German-American author, producer, filmmaker and human rights activist. In his youth, he was involved in — and started — a number of white supremacist and KKK-affiliated groups in Germany. After leaving the white supremacist movement, he relocated to the U.S. and works to help young people leave extremist movements. He also speaks to students about his journey from hate to passion.
