Biosketch of Dr. Kathryn Mannix, MB,BS (Newcastle), FRCP (London), Fellow BABCP)
After thirty happy years in palliative medicine working in hospitals, in hospices and in patients' own homes in the North of England, I took early retirement to campaign for better public understanding and discussion of dying. It's been an extraordinary experience: two best-selling books, a variety of media work (including CBC), and invitations to speak across the UK and around the world. My mid-career project was establishing and integrating a liaison palliative care service into a large UK University Hospital, moving from a cancer-focused service to integration of palliative care within medical management of long-term conditions.
