NASA's experimental Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission successfully collided with the Dimorphos asteroid after almost a year in transit, providing answers to numerous problems.
Ground control at NASA has verified that the DART impact probe has successfully intercepted the target asteroid, albeit they have not yet received all of the data from the crash. A football field would be a good way to describe the size of the asteroid Dimorphos, but space is huge and very black, and both the asteroid and the spacecraft were moving at very fast speeds.
