Yet, the Wakhan has remained largely untouched by the modern world, its people clinging steadfastly to their traditional ways of life.
Here, in the shadow of snow-capped peaks and amidst the vast, rolling grasslands, a hardy and self-sufficient people have carved out an existence. The Wakhi and Kyrgyz communities of the Wakhan continue to herd their livestock, weave their intricate textiles, and maintain a deep connection to the land that has sustained them for generations.
