artist: Praful
song: Ready to Dare
album: Mirror of the Heart
released July 15, 2013
"The lyrics for Ready to Dare came after watching a clip of Britain's Got Talent on youtube. I was touched seeing a guy sing like a god, while for his living he was working in a supermarket - and nobody had ever heard his incredible talent before. I felt, each and every one of us has a (hidden) gift that wants to be shared, a song that yearns to be sung, some secret dream that longs to be lived. And our heart urges us to go for it, not to be held back by fear, not to be stopped by reason, by negative, limiting thoughts." Praful
Praful: Lead Vocals, Bansuri (Indian Bamboo Flutes), Sax, all programming
Afra Mussawisade: Daf, Dumbek, Percussion
Mehmet Polat: Oud (Ud)
Martijn Baaijens: Nylon Guitar
The album Mirror of the Heart is inspired by the passion, depth and devotion of Sufi, Middle-Eastern and Indian music. The mostly acoustic sound is spiced up with occasional Western (electronic) ingredients. Prafuls trademark instruments Bansuri (Indian Bamboo Flutes) & Sax lead the way, but featured are also many stringed instruments from different cultures and world percussion. An impressive line-up of guest musicians from Turkey, Persia, India and Europe supported Praful to create a rich, colorful world-sound. Praful sings lead vocals on 4 songs, the lyrics being based on English translations of poems by Sufi mystics Rumi, Hafiz and words by Praful himself. Featured guest vocalists on 2 songs each are Pakistani Sufi singer Shahzad Ali Khan and Australian Earth-chantess Peruquois.
Praful is a world-renowned sax & flute player, producer, charismatic performer and pioneer in the world music community who is at home in many different musical styles. His Billboard-charting albums have sold more than 100.000 worldwide, with a #1 hit (Sigh) on the US Jazz radio.
