Warp and weft are the two fundamental components of a woven fabric. Warp refers to the threads that run lengthwise in a fabric, while weft refers to the threads that run width wise in a fabric. In a loom, the warp threads are held in place on a frame called a warp beam, while the weft threads are passed through the warp threads using a shuttle or other tool. The interlocking of the warp and weft threads creates the fabric's structure and texture. Woven fabrics, including those made from natural fibres such as cotton and wool, as well as synthetic fibres like polyester and nylon, are made using this process.
