Welcome to Azerbaijan!
This trip was an entirely new experience for me on so many levels. It was the first time I've traveled alone internationally and the first time I've been to a country farther away than Europe. As seen in the video, I was a bit overwhelmed by the beauty and a bit at a loss for words throughout most of the day. In all honesty, It's taken me a few weeks to truly process my trip. It was a lot for me to take in, but I'm extremely grateful for opportunities like this and hope to be able to share many more of them in the next coming months and years!
In my video, I mention that I was a bit hesitant to travel here due to the recent war. This video from Vox explains the recent conflict with Armenia in a clear and unbiased manner: shorturl.at/enyGT
One thing I’ve learned recently is that It’s virtually impossible to escape controversy with travel: every country has its own politics and history that people either agree or disagree over. I am fully aware that this video will spark controversy whether I want it to or not. I've done my best to be open-minded about this country, its people, and its past and to present an honest narrative from my perspective.
I also want to make it very clear that I had no political motivations on this trip, only a hope to show/share how humanity transcends through borders.
In addition to this, I want to emphasize that this was a guided trip through the country. This means that I'm sharing glimpses of the country that I was shown; I'm cognizant that this isn't the full picture and that there is much much more to this country than what I was shown.
I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to visit Azerbaijan and wanted to say thank you for all of the support. This wouldn't be possible without all of you!
I'm also in the process of finishing up the second video and plan to release it in the coming days!
If you're interested to learn more about Azerbaijan, I highly recommend that you watch these documentaries - I watched both of them before I left on my trip!
