US Navy USS Essex Deploy to the West Philippines Sea with 1,200 Sailors and 2,000 Marines
PHILLIPPINE SEA (June 7, 2024) The U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), steams in formation with the flagship of U.S. 7th Fleet, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, USS Robert Smalls (CG 62), Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, USS Higgins (DDG 76) and USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), along with Japanese ships, Taigei-class attack submarine, JS Jingei (SS 515), Izumo-class helicopter carrier, JS Izumo (DDH 183), and Maya-class guided-missile destroyer, JS Haguro (DDG 180), as four F/A-18 Super Hornets attached to Carrier Air Wing 5, two U.S. Air Force (USAF) B-1 Lancer heavy bombers, four USAF F-22 Raptor fighter aircraft, four USAF F-16 Falcon fighter aircraft,
U.S. Marines with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion exchange visit, board, search and seizure tactics with Philippine Force Recon Marines,at Coast Guard Headquarters, Manila, Philippines.Exercises such as increase our ability to work together in response to crisis across the military spectrum in order to accomplish the mission, support the local population, and help alleviate human suffering.
Marines with Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Conduct a test-fire of M240B medium machine guns and M2 .50 caliber Browning machine guns on the flight deck of the USS Wasp, underway in the Philippine Sea. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) departs Naval Station Norfolk for a scheduled deployment, Philippine Sea is deploying as part of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group.
The guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) returns to Naval Station Norfolk, marking their final deployment, Leyte Gulf deployed to the 4th Fleet area of responsibility seizing 6,470 kilograms of illicit-drugs, a semi-submersible, and conducted theater security cooperation visits. Constructed in 1985 and commissioned in 1987, Leyte Gulf is named after the decisive World War II battle in the Philippine Sea.
