"Since the beginning of 2022 until the end of October, the Bab al-Hawa crossing point received around 17,000 citizens. We have a special area for deported people. There are some procedures we follow to confirm their identities. Then we transfer them out of the crossing point so that each one can go to their destination."

"I was in Mardin in Turkey, getting treatment at the city's hospital. They treated me for three years, from 2019 to 2022. When they finished, I was on my way to another province, Hatay, but they (authorities) detained me at Gaziantep terminal and deported me along with my wife and children."

LEADIN:
Hundreds of Syrians have said they were forcibly deported from Turkey and returned to their country.
A leading rights group accused Turkish authorities of breaching international law by detaining, beating and forcibly returning Syrians home.
STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Syrian men deported from Turkey entered their country last week at the northwestern crossing point of Bab al-Hawa.
Many of them said Turkish authorities had detained them before forcibly deporting them.
The New York-based Human Rights Watch said in a report on Oct. 24 that the forced deportation, beating and detention of Syrian men and boys had been going on for over six months.
The Turkish government has in the past rejected accusations of forcibly returning refugees to Syria.
Turkish authorities called the report by the rights group "scandalous" and "far from reality".
