Romare Bearden Park in uptown Charlotte, NC located at 300 S. Church Street. It is usually open 24 hours a day, excluding events within the park. The property is a 5.4 acre public park.
Named for the Charlotte born artist Romare Bearden. The park opened in August of 2013 and is across the street from the BB&T Ballpark - home of the international league's Charlotte Knights.
Romare Bearden's work included cartoons, oils and collages. He began by creating scenes of the American South and later expressed the humanity he felt was lacking in the world after his experience in the U.S. Army during World War II on the European front. He included jazz and trains in his artwork. Romare also played semi-professional baseball. He was 75 years old when he died of bone cancer.
