Keeping bait alive and wriggling can make the difference between catching a big fish and catching none. This tutorial demonstrates how to keep the bait live and wriggling even when there is no access to a refrigerator or cooler, such as in a fishing boat. I used these techniques years to keep the earthworms alive on fishing trips. A worm box and a worm bath can be very effective at keeping the bait in prime condition for the fish.
I forgot to mention in the video that it is actually beneficial if the inside of the worm box rots a little bit over time. From time to time, I also clean out my worm box using a hose. This is done by dumping the soil on the ground and the hosing down the inside of the worm box, to keep it clean. It is possible to substitute shredded newspaper in place of dead tree leaves if these are not available. However, dead tree leaves make much better worm bedding than shredded paper.
A plywood worm box may also have applications for other people who are not fishermen but keep worms for composting purposes. Let’s keep those worms wriggling!
