Secret knot revealed for tying the line to the reel. Take a moment to read the package your fishing line came in and you might see instructions on how to put monofilament line on your spinning reel. There's a correct way to do this when spooling mono in order to not have trouble with twisted line.
Here's what you'll learn in this video:
1. How much line to put on your spinning reel
2. The best knot to use when attaching the monofilament to the spool
3. How to spool your reel so that you don't get line twists
When I was a young guy, about ten years old, my uncle showed me how to tie monofilament line onto the spool. I've never seen anyone use this secret knot. The reason it works so well is because you can cut the tag end off before you tie the fishing line to the spool. I've seen several videos of people using a square knot to connect the two. The problem with this method is that you end up with a long tag end that you have to cut using scissors which isn't an easy task.
Here are the steps:
1. Purchase the correct line for the size reel you are using
2. Tie the double square/granny knot on the end of the line and cut the tag end off close to the knot
3. Thread the line through the fishing pole eye that is closest to the ree
4. Place the slip knot over the spool and pull it tight, not too tight like me in the video because you'll break it
5. Place the spool of fishing line on the floor or on a chair with one flat side down. Don't position it so that as you are reeling on the line the spool rolls around. You want the line container to stay stationary
6. Reel off about fifty to sixty cranks with your hand positioned so that it creates pressure on the line so it goes on the reel tight
7. Open the bail of the spinning reel and pull some line off. If the line twists you need to flip the spool of mono over so that it's stabilized on the other flat size of the container.
8. Reel a bunch of line on again, stop and check to see if the monofilament is twisted using the same method as step seven, It shouldn't be, but if it is... flip the line container over, repeat the process and determine which side is creating the worst twists and avoid using that placement
9. Finish spooling the mono onto the reel using your hand to create pressure so the line packs on tightly. I like to have about one sixteenth of an inch from the edge of the spool to the fishing line.
That's how to spool a spinning reel with mono fishing line.
