Germany Sees First Far-Right State Election Victory Since WWII | Subscribe to Firstpost
Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) has become the first far-right party to win a state election in the country since World War II. According to preliminary results, the AfD secured a historic win in Thuringia, gaining 32.8% of the vote, while the CDU came second with 23.6%. In Saxony, the CDU narrowly led over the AfD. However, the AfD is unlikely to form a government in either state, as other parties have refused to collaborate with them. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the results "bitter" and urged parties to refrain from "right-wing extremists".
