Two British museums will return Asante royal gold stolen from Ghana. The Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum have had the culturally and financially valuable artifacts since the 1870s. All of these bits of antiquity were stolen by British soldiers during the Anglo-Asante wars that took place between 1873 and 1874 and again from 1895 to 1896. The museums and UK government aren’t “giving” the artifacts back. They are under a three-year loan arrangement with the current Asante King.
