We Saw The Sights Of New Orleans By Streetcar: French Quarter, Garden District, Bourbon Street NOLA.
We drove to New Orleans for a vacation and stayed at the International House Hotel in the downtown area. After driving to see some local attractions, and paying around $30 each time for parking, we decided to learn to use the streetcar system and save some money. We found out that it's easy to use, very economical, and it'll take you just about anywhere a tourist needs to go in the Big Easy! We started out at Louis Armstrong Park, where we spent some time at the Cajun-Zydeco Festival and saw Congo Square. From there, we decided to start our streetcar adventure, and we caught the trolley on Rampart St, and paid for an all-day pass for only $3 apiece! We caught the St. Charles streetcar line, which took us to the historic and beautiful Garden District. While we were there, we walked to the Lafayette Cemetery #1, and saw The Commander's Palace Restaurant, where Emeril Lagasse was once a chef. From there, we retraced our steps and went back to the French Quarter area. We also used the streetcar system to go from our hotel to the French Quarter at night, and found that very easy to do. We walked to Canal Street, took a Canal St. Line streetcar to Harrah's Casino, and then got on the Riverfront Line streetcar. The Riverfront Streetcar makes several stops along the riverside edge of the French Quarter, making it a great way to explore this area. There are stations that drop you off right by or close to many popular areas, attractions, and restaurants in the French Quarter. It gave us very convenient access to: The Court Of Two Sisters, Bourbon Street, the Natchez Steamboat, the St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde, Frenchmen Street, and The Spotted Cat Music Club. The streetcar system is great and saved us a ton of money on parking - we just wish we'd started using it the first day we got to New Orleans!
