We were honored to have H.E. Administrator Samantha Power, Administrator at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with us on the occasion of the Seventh Annual Commemoration of the #YazidiGenocide.
Her Excellency shared her thoughts:
"The US has encouraged our partners in the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to create the legal architecture necessary to prosecute and win convictions for crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity, and we urge them to include Yazidis in implementing the Sinjar Agreement.”
“[…] your true narrative, is not one of victimhood. It is one of resilience. Of people persevering in the presence of hate, standing strong when faced with evil, and fighting always for peace and freedom.”
"I also know that healing will only be found through justice, accountability, and the ability to return to your homelands."
Speech transcripts are available in the English and Arabic languages on the Yazda website, featuring the chronic challenges and crucial actions that need to be urgently addressed and facilitated, for the return of Yazidis to Sinjar.
The Seventh annual commemoration of the #YazidiGenocide was held under the patronage of of His Excellency Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al Kadhimi. The two-day commemoration took place on Zoom on August 2-3, 2021 and was hosted by Yazda in partnership with The Zovighian Partnership.
