I bought this off of eBay recently for $35, I was on the hunt for a Floppy based Mavica and this one peaked my interest. This is a CD based Mavica and uses 8mm CD-R's to record photos and short video clips.
This Mavica has a 20x zoom with 10x Optical. It has a 2.5 inch LCD screen on the back and it also has a small LCD in the viewfinder which has a sensor to know when you are looking at it.
The beauty of this camera vs. the floppy based Mavica's of the time (which were still being made until 2002) is that this could handle more photos and at the higher resolution of 2.1 megapixels - which is nothing these days.
I purchased an FD71 Mavica after buying this one and it can only store 6 photos on 1 floppy disk while this can record up to 200 photos on 1 disc.
It does have it's faults though, when trying to film in the HQ settings, the processing took forever and I was then given an error and the video was gone. My nephew also somehow killed an entire CD when using it, but luckily I had gotten many of the existing photos off of it beforehand.
I still find it crazy that this camera is 20 years old, it does do a decent job and has stood the test of time. The battery that was included with it still holds a charge really well also.
I will be making a video on the FD71 Mavica soon.
I hope you guys enjoyed this look back at this cool old camera.
