The Bosnian President has said that Bosnianngovernment forces are acting to lift the siege of Sarajevo because the UN had failed to carry out its mandate to stop the Serb stranglehold on the city. A statement in his name was read out on Bosnian government television on Thursday evening. It said: "Under these circumstances our army was ordered to act to prevent the further strangulation of the city and measures of a
preventive nature are under way."
