Velvet worms (Onychophora) are considered living fossils. They are close relatives of the Arthropoda (spiders, insects, centipedes, crustaceans...) and Tardigrada (those cute and little water bears).
Velvet worms are nocturnal hunters of little animals like insects and arachnids. They eject an adhesive slime that immobilize the prey. Afterwards, they bite into the prey and inject a digestive saliva and then they suck the liquefied innards –similar to how spiders eat.
