HCC in a joint venture with Hyundai Development Corporation (HDC), has been awarded a contract by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), for the design and construction of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), Package II.
The section from Baroda Palace to the Worli end of the existing Bandra Worli Sea Link is one of the three packages of the first phase of the MCRP.
MCGM has envisaged the MCRP along the western seafront of the city to decongest existing roads. This ambitious project intends to connect the iconic Marine Drive in the south to Kandivali in the north. It comprises tunnels, roads on reclaimed land, roads on stilts and bridges with interchanges planned at strategic locations for dispersal of traffic. MCRP would cut down the travel time of commuters by as much as 60% and the dedicated bus rapid transit systems (BRTS) lanes would encourage public transport, leading to fuel savings.
