His name is Daniel Komen, and his 3,000 meter world record of 7:20.67 has stood since September 1st of 1996. In this race, he averaged under 59 seconds per lap, making this achievement one of the most untouchable times in the entire history of athletics. For well over 2 decades, this time has gone untouched against any runner who has made the attempt to break it, but finally, on May 19th in Ostrava, one very special runner will be attempting the impossible.
