Narrated by Abu Hurairah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Ramadan has come to you. (It is) a month of blessing, in which Allah covers you with blessing, for He sends down Mercy, decreases sins and answers prayers. In it, Allah looks at your competition (in good deeds), and boasts about you to His angels. So show Allah goodness from yourselves, for the unfortunate one is he who is deprived in (this month) of the mercy of Allah, the Mighty, the Exalted." (Tabarani)

Narrated by Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "When one of you is fasting, he should abstain from indecent acts and unnecessary talk, and if someone begins an obscene conversation or tries to pick an argument, he should simply say, 'I am fasting.' By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the unpleasant smell that emanates from the mouth of a fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk." (Bukhari and Muslim)

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "The month of Ramadan has come to you, a blessed month, in which Allah has made it obligatory for you to fast. In it, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the evil devils are chained. In it, Allah has a night which is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived." (Ahmad)

Narrated by Salman al-Farsi: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "O people, Ramadan is a blessed month, Allah has made it obligatory upon you to fast in it. During this month, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the evil devils are chained. To Allah belongs a night in it, which is better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its goodness is truly deprived." (Ibn Majah)

Narrated by Abu Hurairah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah says, 'Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting; it is for Me and I shall reward for it.'" (Bukhari and Muslim)
