On March 23rd, 2022 , we were joined by Dr. Hamdi Mohamed to discuss the Somali community in Ottawa. Using oral history, archival sources, and poetry, Dr. Hamdi Mohamed discussed the early experiences of Somali Canadians, how they are constructing new narratives, and making creative spaces to make contributions based on ancestral wisdom and a living legacy of artistic expressions.
Dr. Mohamed is a Principal at Kaafi Consulting and a social historian with a PhD in Women’s History. Her life has been dedicated to designing transformative conversations and learning methodologies through volunteering, working, and teaching. Dr. Mohamed currently works in the areas of organizational change, community development, and research.
