Junagadh Swaminarayan Mandir (on Jawahar Road) is the 5th Dham constructed by Swaminarayan Bhagwan at the request of Junagadh’s Hemantsinh Raja.
Despite much pushback from the locals in Junagadh, Swaminarayan Bhagwan had Shree Brahmanand Swami construct the Mandir. He was helped by the navab of Junagadh, Badhur Khan, after Khan realized that Brahmanand Swami was the famous “Ladudanji” who would sing for him, prior to Brahmanand Swami’s initiation as a Swami. There were many attempts to prevent the Mandir from being built; Rangildas is infamous for trying to stop the Mandir from being built. But by the wish of Gopalanand Swami, he was stopped from preventing the Mandir’s construction.
Nevertheless, the Mandir was completed and Swaminarayan Bhagwan installed Shree Radharaman Dev, Shree Ranchod Trikam Rai, and Shree Siddheshwar Mahadev in the Mandir. He installed these forms on Vaishak Vad- 2 in Samvat 1884 and declared them to be his own form. Swaminarayan Bhagwan said that there is no difference between Shree Radharaman Dev and himself, and that he will accept all offerings from his devotees and fulfill their wishes as Shree Radharaman Dev.
Upon the installation, Swaminarayan Bhagwan also prayed to Mahadevji to fulfill the wishes of anyone who comes to Junagadh and seeks his refuge, and named him “Siddheshwar Mahadev.”
By the command of Swaminarayan Bhagwan, Sadguru Shree Gunatitanand Swami served as the first Mahant of this Mandir for 40 years, 4 months, and 4 days where he spread the greatness of Swaminarayan Bhagwan to every person in Junagadh region. Through his countless efforts, satsang flourished in Junagadh region, and the fruits of his labor are still seen there today.
