This is a training film from 1951 from the Naval Proving Ground in Dahlgren, Virginia. It is now called the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. It was founded in 1918 and continues to this day as a large research and tecnology development center for the US Navy. Though the testing methods for muntions have changed significantly, they are still being performed on a daily basis. Some of the first computers were used not only for measuring the trajectory of munitions, but were later used in the 1950s for calculating the orbits of satellites. (Think of a projectile is shot in a circular orbit that never lands!) A number of the buildings seen in this film are still there and still in use to this day.
