To deliver a guide catheter extension (Guideliner, Trapliner, Guidezilla, etc) a balloon (usually 2.0 - 2.5 mm in diameter) is inflated (usually to 6-8 atm) half-way in and half-way out the guide catheter extension. The balloon is then deflated while at the same time the guide extension is being advanced. This technique centers the guide catheter extension and minimizes friction with the vessel wall.
