I'll never forget this 6th day of January, while using my Lowrance Active Target, I saw a large fish swimming about 60 feet out in front of my boat. It was over 50 foot deep, and the fish was suspended about 10-15' down. I launched my lure about 20 feet beyond him and watched as the bait approached the fish. When the bait arrived, I felt a small tick and set the hook. From that point forward, it was an all-out Battle!
I was fishing on Lake Sam Rayburn and had to ask another boater for help landing the fish as I did not have my net in the boat. They informed me that the Texas State Record Blue Catfish was 82-83lbs and unfortunately, I didn't have a set of scales that would weigh that much. We know he was over 50 pounds b/c it maxed out one set of scales with an "H" which meant is was "H"igher than it's max value. I'm hoping that I didn't release a record fish as one set of scales read 36 pounds and I've been told there's a chance that was an additional 36 pounds on top of it's max value of 50 pounds which would mean the fish weighed 86 pounds!!
Regardless, this was an epic fish catch and I'll never forget the day that I caught what I believe will be the Biggest Blue Catfish of My Life.
