STORYLINE
Dutch news media say the Balkan war crimes suspect Goran Hadzic has arrived in the Netherlands, after being extradited from Serbia earlier on Friday.
His arrival Friday at Rotterdam airport was reported by the ANP news agency.
Hadzic will be detained at Scheveningen prison where he will reside while being prosecuted by the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the Hague.
He will join fellow war crimes suspects Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic at the detention unit.
Hadzic, 53, is accused of atrocities stemming from Croatia's 1991-95 war, including the leveling of Vukovar and the massacre of some 200 Croat prisoners of war after the devastation of the town on the Danube.
He was arrested on Wednesday after seven years on the run, discovered by Serbian agents who had followed a money trail that began in December when Hadzic's aides tried to sell a Modigliani painting.
Hadzic's arrest has been hailed as the symbolic closure of a horrific chapter in Balkan history and an important step toward the former pariah state of Serbia joining the European Union.
