Top cold medication picks from your Mad About Meds pharmacist!
1 - Tylenol or Motrin for pain, body aches and fever. Typical adult dosing:
Tylenol 650mg every 4 hours or 1000 mg every 6 hours.
(Talk to your doctor if you have liver disease before taking Tylenol)
Motrin 400mg every 4 hours.
(Talk to your doctor if you have kidney or heart disease before taking Motrin)
2 - Afrin nasal spray. Typical dosing, 2-3 sprays in each nostril every 12 hours. Do not take for more than 3 days or your congestion may worsen when you stop using Afrin.
(Talk to your doctor first before using if you have high blood pressure or heart disease).
Sudafed could also be used in place of Afrin, but I personally prefer Afrin because of the side effects from Sudafed.
3 - Delsym (dry/hacking cough) or plain Mucinex (wet/congested cough). Drink lots of water to help both a dry or wet cough!
