White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany held a press briefing on Wednesday, where she responded to multiple questions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic within the United States.
McEnany said President Donald Trump “has always supported mask wearing,” when asked about his "mixed messages" during the pandemic.
Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Robert Redfield, testified earlier Wednesday that wearing a face mask may do more to protect against the spread of coronavirus than getting a vaccine, stating "I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against COVID than when I take a COVID vaccine."
McEnany also told reporters that they are “still of the belief” there will have a vaccine by the end of the year following Redfield's testimony that a COVID-19 vaccine may not be widely available until the second or third quarter of 2021. The press secretary added that Operation Warp Speed's goal is to have more than 100 million doses in production.
The U.S. has recorded more than 6.6 million COVID-19 cases and nearly 200,000 deaths as it continues to deal with the ongoing pandemic.
