Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. This recording features the Platinum Allstars which were a UK Garage collective that featured MC Image, MC Tuggawar (Tuggawar War Gad), MC Del and MC Skee. DJ Scotty B and DJ LD go back to back as they rinse out all the UK Garage classics of 2001. MC Image was an established household name on the London and UK Garage scene, with bookings for big rave nights and residencies at Freak'N You, Cream Of Da Crop and other top events. MC Image shot to commercial fame when he teamed up with producer David Howard and vocalist Jhay Palmer - "Hello" which was the Garage cover Lionel Richie's original which reach 69 in the UK Commercial Music Charts, they did several productions after that with, Jhay Palmer & MC Image – Hustler (2002), and, Jhay Palmer Ft. MC Image – R U Leaving Me? (2002).
MC Tuggawar is definitely influenced by early Jamaican Sound System, and is an accomplished independent artist who has featured on the UK biggest platforms like Tim Westwood's Saturday BBC Radio 1 show back 21st Feb 2009: Tuggawar freestyle - Westwood (TimWestwoodTV) and Grime Report. It was several years after this recording Tuggawar featured at the prestigious "Sting 2003 Jamaica (Jamworld)" making an impact there.
Tuggawar is not shy of clashing MCs and has sent for many MCs in time notably Chip, and has dabbled in Grime music and has shown his versatility.
2001 was at last of the height of UK Garage with its eventual decline in 2002 and the emergence of Grime and Dubstep at the backend of that year going into 2003. The nature of MCing had changed it was geared towards clashing other crews and you could see the early signs of the Grime Movement happening. With more MCs than DJs, non-stop MCing back to back and lyrics became more explicit which was a long way away from the times where MCs toasted and hosted. It was a massive cultural shift.
