Domestic violence crimes can be both felonies and misdemeanors. Under Oregon law, domestic violence crimes are crimes that are committed against a family or household members that meet a certain definition of abuse. Some of these crimes are misdemeanors and some of them are felonies. For example, Assault 4 which we think of more of a simple assault is just a misdemeanor unless a child is present and then it's a felony.
Harassment which is just more of unwanted touching very low-level injury is a misdemeanor. Then there are more serious felonies like more serious assaults, strangulation, and coercion. Those types of crimes are all felonies. Under Oregon law, domestic violence crimes can be both felonies and misdemeanors.
