McCausland Iowa was going to lose their post office under the guise that their current post office didn't meet security specification.
After several meetings with postal officials, the town refused to lose their post office. Postal officials informed the town citizens that they would have to come up with a building and renovate it at their expense. The total cost was $110,000.
After many fundraisers, the town was able to raise $80,000+ for the project. Time was running out for them as their deadline was April 25th.
William Burrus, President of the American Postal Workers Union AFL-CIO, heard of the town's progress in Washington D.C. and decided to help the town.
The APWU contacted Bruce Clark, President of the Iowa chapter of the APWU, to present the check to the town.
Bruce presented the check on 4/19/08 during a fundraiser being held. Several union members were on hand for the dedication. Many of the members were thanked by the citizens of McCausland for their union's help.
