Thermopacks are very commonly used ancillary thing for pain management other than the medications which we give .So some people prefer cold, some people prefer hot packs. So when to use cold packs when to use hot packs is the question. Cold packs are generally used in acute injuries, that is, recent injuries, within a day, two injuries, you can use cold packs. This will help in decreasing the pain also and it will also help in decreasing the swelling. It will also help in preventing the increase of the swelling. So cold packs are better for new injuries, fresh injuries, acute injuries, whereas warm packs are better for old injuries. Old injuries or long term pain like a back ache, a neck ache, a shoulder which is going on for a very long time. There war packs are better because it increases the circulation of blood there and that in turn will increase the pain tolerance and also it will wash away all the pain causing chemicals which are collected in that area. So that leads to decrease in the pain. However it should be remembered that the thermopacks, that is the cold packs and the warm packs, are not a treatment in itself. They are for a temporary measure. You will have to consult your doctor for further management to remove the offending thing, that is, whatever is the cause of the pain, that has to be treated that can be treated with thermopack, that is cold packs, or hot packs can’t treat the condition. It can only reduce your pain for that particular time.
