Just to remember, dental veneers are ultra-thin shells shaped like a tooth made of porcelain or composite. These shells improve the color, shape and position of your teeth to give you a better-looking smile and boost your self-esteem.
To keep your Dental Veneers lasting for many many years, you should:
-Tip # 1: Practice Proper Oral Hygiene: Brushing your teeth after each meal will prevent staining your veneers and help them last longer. Make sure you use a soft-bristle toothbrush every time you're cleaning your teeth.
-Tip # 2: Flossing: This is one of the most important steps to ensure that you don't end up with gum diseases. Puffy, red or bleeding gums can be prevented by flossing daily. Dental floss also removes rest of food between your teeth, because in those areas a regular toothbrush can't clean.
-Tip # 3: Avoid using abrasive tooth-pastes: Activated charcoal & whitening tooth-pastes have a high level of abrasiveness. Even though dental veneers are durable, they're fabricated with different materials. Whether you have porcelain or composite veneers, I recommend you only use a non-abrasive tooth-paste.
-Tip # 4: Don't use your veneers as tools: This is a bad habit. Your teeth or veneers weren't designed to biting hard objects like ice, fingernails, or pencils. If you chew on a very hard object, it might damage, or break your veneer.
-Tip # 5: Wear a mouth-guard: If you get hit close to your mouth, there is the risk of a chipped or cracked veneer. That's why, If you're a person that practice boxing, basketball or any other sport. I recommend asking your dentist for a mouth-guard, so that you can keep your new beautiful smile safe.
-Tip # 6: Wear a Night-guard: If you have a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth, you must wear a splint at nights. Why? Because sleeping in a mouth-guard could help prevent the chances of damaging your veneers. (Image 29)
-Tip # 7: Avoid smoking: Smoking won't stain your veneers, but it affects your health. That is one of the main reasons for quitting it. Also, many experts agreed that smokers are more at risk for gum recession. Then your teeth begin to appear longer, and your veneers become much more apparent. And as you can see, that doesn't look good!
If your goal is to preserve a beautiful smile and keep your veneers for many years, please consider quitting smoking.
- Tip # 8: Visit your dentist: Dental visits are essential to maintaining natural teeth or any other dental work. This regular visits can help you to save tons of money, preventing or early addressing issues that might happen. Also, some dentist like me, use non-abrasive paste formulated for veneers to polishing your smile and make it look like new.
