Some of you might think the previous WR of 3:31.18 was easy to beat, but it took running legends, Hicham El Guerrouj and Haile Gebrselassie, in the same race to set that record in 1997, both in their primes and Gebrselassie chasing El Guerrouj. The following years, both Haile and El Guerrouj have come close to breaking that record in separate races, but they couldn't break it again; Haile tried to break it and came short with 3:31.76 in 1998. Then, 21 days later, El Guerrouj ran 3:32:02. So this record was hard to beat, but Samuel Tefera finally broke it with the help of Yomif Kejelcha. Check out the top 10 all-time lists below:
