The director of the Australian Open has ruled out delaying the tournament after nearly 50 players were forced into hard lockdown.
The 47 players who were exposed to a COVID case will now have to undergo 14-days of hotel quarantine which is set to end only two weeks before the beginning of the tournament.
Two people were infected on the first chartered flight from Los Angeles, while another case emerged from the second flight from Abu Dhabi.
Australian Open Tournament Director and CEO of Tennis Australia, Craig Tiley, said there was always a risk involved, but now it’s time to “deal with it”.
Mr Tiley did reassure that the Australian Open is “going ahead” despite the significant setback.
