For the first time in 20 years big-time boxing returns to FOX as undefeated former 140-pound world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) battles former four-division champ Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Garcia—who is coming off two wins in 2015 after moving up from 140 pounds—looks to prove that he is one of the elite boxers in the 147-pound division. Meanwhile Guerrero—who once again lived up to his “Warrior” surname when he put on a gutty performance in a loss to Keith Thurman in the PBC’s inaugural card last March—knows he’s coming in as the underdog, but says he’s ready to show he’s still a welterweight title contender rather than a gatekeeper.
The fight should be a fun one for Hispanic and Latino fans as the Puerto Rican Garcia puts heritage bragging rights on the line for the Mexican Guerrero. "The Garcia's can try to downplay the Mexican vs. Puerto Rican rivalry all they want, but the fact is, this rivalry has been the cornerstone of great boxing matches since before I was born,” Guerrero said. "We are both born in America, but our roots go back to Mexico and Puerto Rico, so expect the rivalry to continue."
