Bill “Wamby” Wambsganss, The Only Unassisted Triple Play in MLB World Series History (1920) & Biography.
For those of you who particularly love unique and ultra-rare things that make up for great baseball trivia – this episode is for you!
Wamby is credited with achieving the only unassisted triple play in MLB World Series History. A feat that was accomplished in game 5 of the 1920 World Series when the Cleveland Indians matched up with the Brooklyn Robins. 1920 was the year Cleveland won its first pennant and World Series.
However, unlike many other stories that feature only this rare baseball stat, we’re also going to share with you some of Bill’s life and times that led up to the World Series and beyond including talking about his close friend and teammate Ray Chapman (the only MLB ball player who has been killed by a pitch), as well as playing opposite Shoeless Joe Jackson (one of the 8 men out in the Chicago Black Sox Scandal). This is a true inside look at the man, his baseball career, and personal life.
