Today on our 2015 Kia Sportage, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C13066. Here's what this hitch is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. A lot of our customers seem to like how tucked back it is, to make sure that it doesn't protrude out past the bumper, and therefore, it maintains that clean look for your vehicle. It's also not so far back to where you're not going to get good clearance with the majority of accessories that you may want to use with it. Features the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, with this nice, attractive reinforcement piled around it. It's got the rolled steel safety chain connection points, which are going to be really good because you've got plenty of clearance all the way around to get just about whatever type of safety chain that you may have connected to it. Got the standard five-eighths inch hitch pinhole, which is going to be used to secure all your accessories into the hitch. It's a nice, very easy installation.
There's two attachment points on either side in the frame rail, and there are existing weld nuts that you'll put new hardware into in order to tighten it up and secure it in place. It features a three-hundred-fifty pound max tongue weight rating and a thirty-five hundred pound gross trailer weight rating, and it's not rated for use with a weight distribution system, but you will want to be sure to refer to the owner's manual of your vehicle to make sure that your vehicle's capable of carrying the type of weight that this hitch is rated for. With this hitch, Curt requires that with all non-trailer loads, you use a stabilizing strap, and if you need to get one of those, you can get that on our site, part number 18050. Now, let's give you some measurements to help assist you with your selection of hitch-mounted accessories such as ball mounts, bike racks, or cargo carriers. The distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost part of the rear bumper is about six and a half inches, and the distance from the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening to the ground is about thirteen and a half inches. Now, let's show you how to install this hitch. Here's all the tools that you're going to need to install this.
You've got eleven-sixteenths socket here, and I've got another one here to use with the torque wrench. We've got nylon tube brush, some spray lubricant, and something to use with that socket in order to tighten it down. To begin our installation, first thing we'll need to do is locate our attachment points and then clean them out. Our attachment points are going to be these two weld nuts here, and then there's going to be two in the same location on the other side. What I want to do is take a little bit of spray lubricant, spray it inside each one, and then I can take a nylon tube brush.
If you need to pick one up, you can get one on our site, part number 814092. I'm just going to push that in there and spin it around in order to help clean those threads out. Going to make sure that the threads on our new hardware are going to go in nice and easy, so I'll do that on both sides. Now it's a good idea to get a second side of hands. You want to feed it up over the passenger side first, where the exhaust comes out, and then across into position. Then you want to get your weld nuts lined up with the holes on the hitch, and then you can get one of your bolts started on each side.
You want to be sure to put a conical tooth washer on there, with the teeth facing up towards the hitch. Once we've got one in each side, we can let it hang and then get the rest of our hardware started. With all the hardware started, you want to be sure that the hitch is centered on the vehicle. Once you've done that, you can take an eleven-sixteenths socket and tighten down all your hardware. With all your hardware tightened up, you want to be sure to go back and make sure that it's torqued down to the specification in the instructions. We'll do that for the other three attachment points as well. That's going to conclude our look at and installation of the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C13066, on our 2015 Kia Sportage.
