(18 Jun 2018) The Libyan coast guard on Monday rescued 115 illegal migrants off the coast of Libya, who were stranded in the sea,128 kilometres (eight miles) north of the Abu Kammash area, 150 kilometers (93 miles) west of the capital Tripoli.
Commander of coast guard vessel Captain Rami Al-Hadi said the coast guard rescued immigrants from different African countries, including two children, 22 women, from a rubber boat.
He added that five bodies had been recovered near the dilapidated boat.
According to Al-Hadi, after humanitarian and medical assistance being provided at Tripoli naval base, the migrants will be handed over to the immigration control.
The issue of illegal immigration has been exacerbated since 2011, as smugglers take advantage of the chaos that prevails in Libya to transport tens of thousands of migrants each year towards Europe.
