Sri Lanka made olny 299 in that innings but 189 of those runs came off Jayasuriya's bat as he mercilessly plundered the Indian bowling attack to all parts of the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

In this match India being bowled out for 54 in Sharjah in 2000. Sri Lankan left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas ran through Indian top order consisting of Saurav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Vinod Kambli before returning and taking the scalp of Javagal Srinath to conclude Indian inning for just 54 runs. Nuwan Zoysa supported Chaminda Vaas brilliantly by bowling economically and frequently troubling Indian batsmen with short balls. Nuwan Zoysa ended up claiming one wicket. Muttiah Muralitharan who took world record bowling figures in the previous game against India came into the attack later on and claimed three Indian wickets very cheaply. Only Robin Singh got into double figures for India. Sanath Jayasuriya claimed an excellent catch off Vinod Kambli's bat fielding at the slip following up with his match-winning knock of 189 earlier in the day. Sri Lanka won the match and the Coca Cola Champions trophy by 245 runs remaining undefeated. This game is one of the best match for Sri Lanka in their history.
