Do you wonder why do we get dandruff?
Oily scalp or anything that increases the old generation in the scalp, causes an increased growth of an organism called as malalsezia which is a part of our body. It is a normal commensally but when it increases more on the scalp, the body insights an inflammatory reaction which is seen in the form of flakes which are called as dandruff. So first and foremost have to keep the scalp free form oil at all times, number two we need to use an antidandruff shampoo that contains ketaconazole, zinc pyrithione, or selenium sulphide to keep the malassezia level normal. Number three, it is equally important especially if you a gym goer or you wear a helmet, that you wash your hair everyday preferably with a mild paraben and sulphate free shampoo so that the milieu of the scalp is not oily to in case of malassezia that is the main cause of dandruff. If the shampoos that are labelled a antidandruff is not enough, the it is time to consult your dermatologists for adding stay of ketaconazole or certain anti-inflammatory therapies to calm own your scalp third put so when you use an antidandruff shampoo make sure you apply it all over the scalp and not much on hair, out keep it for a period of 3 to 5 minutes and rinse it because these shampoos can have their own build-up and can also make the hair vey dry i generally advise my patients to combine antidandruff shampoos with the application of a good conditioner on the body of the are because they need the hair a bit dry and it may not be a very encouraging thing for someone who suffers from it. Dandruff is a long term issue and it requires continuous maintenance by the patient especially if you feel the flakes are coming down to the margins of the scalp or if they are visible on the face, then it is time to go to your nearest dermatologist.
