The Centre government approved the Model Tenancy Act, 2021. It will set up district-wise rental courts, authorities and tribunals across India. The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved the Act. All states and UTs will now adapt this law by way of enacting fresh legislation or amending existing rental laws in their respective states. The Act seeks to protect both landlords and tenants and will formalise the rental housing market in India.
