Dead Rising was once Capcom's most promising new franchise. It has now entirely disappeared from the world of gaming. Today we will talk about this iconic franchise and try to find out what went wrong with it.
During the seventh console generation, Capcom's Dead Rising was one of their primary flagship series. The original Dead Rising, which debuted on the Xbox 360, was a moderate success, exceeding many people's expectations given that it was a very Japanese game coming on a platform that only had traction in the West.
The game was a hit for a variety of reasons, including the incredible "everything you can pick up is a weapon" system, endearing characters and a mysterious yet campy plot to tie everything together. Capcom was in the midst of its Western experimenting era when Dead Rising 2 was released. With Japanese game sales declining but Western sales booming, Capcom leased out several of its titles, including Dead Rising, to Western developers in order to grab that market.
So, what exactly happened? Let's start from the very beginning then...
