March 16, 2023: SPC has outlined an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for severe weather for parts of southern Oklahoma and northern Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. A low-amplitude shortwave trough will act upon rapidly returning low-level moisture today, which will yield multiple rounds of severe storms across the region. The main threat will focus along the dryline and southeastward-surging cold front from central Oklahoma into north-central Texas. Additional storms are possible across east Texas near the eastern edge of the warm sector, as well as farther south into central/south-central Texas along the dryline. All hazards will be on the table, including the threat for very large hail with initial dryline/cold front development, as well as a conditional risk for a strong tornado centered near the Red River. Storms will eventually congeal into a line with a damaging wind and sporadic large hail risk this evening.
