Kesha has had a long career. Initially, she wrote and recorded demos for other artists, and sang the hook on songs such as Flo Rida's Right Round. In 2009, Kesha released her debut single TikTok, followed by her debut album, Animal. It was soon followed by the album's reissue Cannibal. Like her contemporary Lady Gaga, Kesha was a polarizing firgure in pop, despite her almost cult-like fanbase of mostly younger fans. Kesha's music was brash and carefree, and she mixed pop and rap in a way that earned her comparisons to the Beastie Boys. Soon after releasing her sophomore album Warrior, Kesha found herself in a lengthy legal battle with her producer and label head, Dr. Luke. Though Kesha had initially sued him for s*xual ass*ult, the battle has turned into one of defamation, with Dr. Luke currently suing Kesha over some text messages she sent to Lady Gaga regarding what had allegedly happened to her. In the midst of this legal battle, Kesha sought to be freed from RCA and Kemosabe, yet was denied. While under the label, she released her final three albums with them, Rainbow, High Road, and her most recent, Gag Order. Kesha said the album was inspired by tapping into all the anger and rage she has felt over the past few years, and no longer wanting to or having to cater to anyone else with her music.
