The RNLI states that in 2021 over 80% of its “rescues” involving SUP’s were as a result of them being carried away from shore by the wind. In this video I explore this by not paddling for 2.5km and allowing the wind to take me into Lyme Bay whilst standing.
I look at what this dangerous wind is and why it catches so many of you out. I cover strategies for avoiding, reducing its drift effect and enduring you can make a call for help quickly to the right location by owning the right safety devices. I’d like to thank Ocean Rescue, the RNLI LIFEGUARDS and the coastguard for their help and co-operation. This video was not carried out as part of my work as Chair Sup Technical panel at British Canoeing. The work views and advice are my own and given freely to improve safety. However I restless my commitment to coach assisted development and no amount of you tube university makes up for practical experience guided by professionals !! Thanks Tids
