The Yudate Kagura is a Shinto ritual in which a Shrine Maiden uses a bunch of sacred "Sasa" (bamboo) leaves to splatter hot water around.
Being splattered with this water is believed to protect you from diseases, natural disasters and bad luck in general.
Some details, instruments and the type of water used may change depending on each shrine, but the ceremony is basically the same all over Japan.
This video is from a small Yudate Kagura held at the Ebisu Shrine, in Gion, Kyoto.
